The Higher Education Transfer Alliance (HETA) is a voluntary group of accredited institutions that are concerned with the importance of student mobility, enhancing success in transfer of credit, and affirming the responsibility and prerogative of individual institutions with respect to acceptance of transfer credits. HETA is a Web-based directory of colleges and universities that is open to all institutions that are accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or the United States Department of Education (USDE). HETA has hundreds of college members. Numerous schools, colleges and universities are members of HETA and have agreed to consider the transfer of credits from school to school. Transfer of credits between schools is based solely on the individual college’s preferences and procedures and is often competed on a case-by-case basis. For a listing of HETA college members, visit the Council for Higher Education Accreditation website. Carnegie accepts transfer credits from all nationally accredited, regionally accredited, DETC accredited, and college members of HETA.

Carnegie Career College is nationally accredited. Both nationally and regionally accreditation agencies focus on reviewing and accrediting entire institutions. This means one college having business, education, and a health sciences programs, will get an accrediting umbrella over all programs the school offers. Regionally accredited schools are based on standards within a region of the country. National accredited schools are judged by the standards set at the national level. These standards are set high, in order to uphold the authority of education, and are specified to judge institutions that offer specialized degrees, rather than the more broad spanning education offered through a regionally accredited institution. For example, a health sciences school will be most likely nationally accredited, rather than regionally accredited.
