What Does A Rehabilitation Massage Therapist Do?
A Rehabilitation Massage Therapist (LMT) and Manual Lymphatic Drainage/De-congestive Therapist (MLD/CDT) work as part of a medical team in the treatment of medical disorders and injuries. The physician, physical therapist, occupational therapist, or chiropractor coordinates a treatment plan that utilizes the skills of the therapist. These medical providers can prescribe therapy and insurance can be billed for the services rendered. Working with the medical providers, the therapist is an essential part of the treatment team. Rehabilitation massage therapists can also provide these services as employees of a hospital, physician’s office, rehabilitation clinic, and so on.

The graduate also receives a certificate in Manual Lymphatic Drainage/ Complete De-Congestive Therapy (MLD/CDT) through Carnegie Career College.

The program also includes training in myofascial- neuromuscular therapy, manual lymphatic drainage therapy, cranial sacral technique, energy medicine, hot stone massage, cellulite reduction techniques, acupressure face-lift techniques, reflexology, body wrap techniques, infant and pregnancy massage techniques, hypnomassage, personal fitness training and sports massage, and chair massage.

Many conditions benefit from the skills learned at Carnegie  including circulatory conditions, lymphedema, post- burn, post-surgical, and others.

The Carnegie program leads to an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) which signals professional competence and recognition.

The school clinic offers practical hands-on experience with patients suffering from post-burn, post- cosmetic surgery, lymph-edema, post-mastectomy, disease and injury cases under physician prescription, as well as spa- pampering massage techniques. The clinic experience is unique and produces highly competent massage therapists and complex de-congestive therapists. Licensed massage therapists (LMT) participate in supervising
patients in the clinic.
